A party worthy of the mimesis of the legendary Miami parties, the one that celebrated, at the Gitano at Casa Faena, the LAVAZZA calendar made in collaboration with the enfant terrible of photography, the popstar David LaChapelle, in a location of a thousand and one night that Combines the style and architecture of 1900s Spain, combining contemporary design with Art Deco and Mediterranean colonial style. Completing the whole thing is a suspended site-specific installation representing a jungle, curated by the Manscapers studio in New York.
“The calendar has always been the ideal tool to stimulate a critical sense about the present, because it uses art and beauty to engage and inspire. In particular, the Lavazza calendar created by David LaChapelle wanted to celebrate in spectacular fashion the relationship that binds man to nature, while suggesting a series of actions for its preservation”, says Francesca Lavazza, member of the fourth generation of the board of directors of the Lavazza Group, which is one of the most renowned Italian companies in the world. The Lavazza group was founded in Turin in 1895 and is one of the most important roasters in the world that created the concept of mixing.
This is not the first time Lavazza has collaborated with David LaChapelle on the limited edition calendar. David LaChapelle, for his part, needs no introduction: the pop photographer par excellence, pupil of Andy Warhol from whom he learned a lot, lover of saturation and master of plastic provocations represents elegant bodies, vivid colors and contrasts glistening, immersed in a voluptuous nature.
His works challenge traditional ordinary techniques thanks to their mastery of color, compositional peculiarity and visionary narrative.
David LaChapelle says he is extremely pleased with the work done for Lavazza: both for the freedom of choice he had in the making of the shots – because Lavazza for him is more of a brand, it is a kind of family – and the calendar fully embraces David’s social commitment to protecting the land. His colorful works are set in the idyllic paradise of Hawaii, where the photographer resides, because contrary to what is thought he is not a diva but he calls himself more a solitary animal, even shy at times. Among the greatest photographers of our time, his works are exhibited in the most important museums and galleries in the world.
The calendar consists of twelve beautiful shots to which have been combined for each a verb and a phrase that invite action: Realize, Defend, Support, Feed, Reconnect, Breathe, Respect and of course Change.
Twelve rules that call attention and action through the slogan:
“We celebrate the earth because thanks to her we exist.
We listen to her to help her.
We realize what’s important, to be important to her.
We defend her, especially from ourselves.
We treat her because her health is ours.
We support her, working to reduce any empathy.
We honor her because she gave us everything without asking for anything.
We feed her to see her grow again.
We reconnect with her to prove how she feels.
We breathe her because she’s life.
We respect her because she’s our mother.”
We will change her if we change her.”
The party was attended by VIPs and wealthy people: social elite, artists designers and architects, fashion-lite business show characters, bloggers, photographers, real estate developers and models who posed for the realization of the service Photo. Among the celebrities the living sculpture Daniel Lismore, Gaetano Pesce, Pamela Anderson, Johanna Keimeyer, Pepe Mar and David Castillo, Jeffrey Jah, Alan Faena and Barbara Hulanicky iconic founder of the BIBA brand in London.
An event that has not gone unnoticed in the name of the Italian coffee Lavazza that aims to the awareness that good for the earth is good for ourselves.
